Bee, Wasp, and Hornet Removal

Honey Bee Removal by Tampa Pest & Exterminator

Honey bees generally do not infest homes as much as other flying pests.  However, when they do, they can do quite a bit of damage.  Honey bees can chew through walls to get inside where they then begin storing large amounts of honey, which invites other bees and wasps.  Their waste will also attract moths and beetles.

If a bee colony is found within a building wall it must be removed.  Call Go Tampa Pest Control for your honey bee removal.

Ground Nesting Bee, Wasp, and Hornet and Removal

Generally people only think to look up when looking out for stinging insects.  Unfortunately, that will not protect them from those insects that have ground nests such as wasps, hornets or yellow jackets.  These insects will burrow into the ground with multiple openings or entry points.  These burrows are often found along the edge of a bank or along a line of trees.

Some types of ground bees, wasps, and yellow jackets are very dangerous to treat.  Because of this it is very important that you keep all children and pets away and do not try to remove them yourself.  Protect your family by calling Go Tampa Pest Control to exterminate any ground nesting bees, wasps, hornets or yellow jackets.

Tampa Carpenter Bee Extermination

Carpenter Bees can cause quite of damage due to their burrowing into the exposed dry wood of building decks, fascia and soffits, windowsills, railings, and wooden siding.  They bore holes that are about 3/8″ in diameter then build their nests inside the hollowed out space.  You should suspect a carpenter bee infestation if you find large amounts of sawdust and pollen below the hole which is being chewed and excavated. Go Tampa Pest Control will get rid of carpenter bees for you and seal up any areas where they have bored holes.

Because Africanized Honey Bees are more aggressive than standard bees, they are often feared more.  When a bee stings it will release an alarm pheromone that signals for others to come attack. With Africanized Honey Bees you are sometimes talking about the entire hive. This can be dangerous for anyone, not just with bee allergies.

Exterminating African Honey Bees

Africanized Honey Bees will often find their way into a home through small holes in the exterior walls  of the home.  Once they are inside, like the standard honey bee they will create a nest.  You may also find their nests hanging in various places on your property.  These bees are generally found in the Southern parts of the United States, so be on the lookout and protect your home by having Go Tampa Pest Control seal your home against invaders today!  No Risk!  No Hassle!  No Pressure!

Their food of choice is the cellulose part of wood which is found in walls, floors, dressers, tables, etc.  Their damage is normally found on the first floor of the home and in the basement.  One can find evidence of them in their tunnels and in their swarming behavior.

Tampa Termite Removal – Formosan Subterranean Termite

The Formosan Subterranean Termite is generally found in the warmer southern areas of the United States in addition to Hawaii.  Because of its ability to consume a vast amount of wood in a short amount of time, this type of termite has earned the nickname “the super termite.”  In fact, a health adult colony can eat up to a pound of wood a day.  In addition, the queen of the colony can lay up to 1300 termite eggs a day.  Because of this, the Formosan Subterranean Termite can cause the highest amount of property damage of all the termite species in the United States.  Go Tampa Pest Control sees this type of damage from termites all the time!

These termites don’t just stick to wood, either.  They have been known to eat wood, plaster, plastic, and even metal. A tell-tale sign of a Formosan Subterranean Termite infestation is in the bulging of your walls.  This is caused as the termites not only eat the walls, but they create tunnels made of their saliva and feces.  When you see this bulging time is of the essence and you need to get a professional to come take care of your problem before the colony eats you out of house and home, literally!

Tampa Termite Control – Eastern Subterranean Termites

The most common type of termite in North America is the subterranean termite which is also know as the soil feeding termite.  This type of termite is know to feed on paper, cotton, wood, tree and bush roots.  They especially enjoy the cellulose part of wood.

Eastern Subterranean Termites can develop colonies that are up to 5 million in number.  However, the average falls closer to the 30-40 thousand range.  They have what is called a swarm intelligence which means that they act and they move as if they were one entity.  It is not uncommon for a Eastern Subterranean Termite colony to live for up to 30 years.

These termites can be found throughout a building whether it be the rafters of the attic or the foundation in the basement.  They are found by looking for their mid tubes or by finding the.  Sometimes you may even find the wings of the kings and queens of the colony lying around.  You need to be on the watch for their tunnels and tubes as the swarms are not generally easy to see.  This means that many homes are being destroyed without the owners even realizing it.

Go Tampa Pest Control provides both termite removal and termite prevention.  Call us today to find out how you can protect your home!  You will find us pleasant to work with, professional, and glad you chose us!

Drywood Termites

Drywood Termites live in dry wood and therefore can be found in everything from wooden rocking chairs and bookshelves to hardwood flooring or walls.  Of the hundreds of drywood termite species, only a handful are found in the United States.

One subspecies of the Drywood Termite is the Powderpost termite which is commonly found in the southeastern and middle parts of North America.  The common name for this type is the furniture termite.  Western Drywood Termites are another subspecies which mainly inhabit the western side of the United States.

Drywood termite colonies tend to be relatively small in comparison to subterranean termites.  However, there can be multiple colonies within a single dwelling and rather than living in tubes and huts, drywood termites live in the wood itself and will tunnel along the grain of the wood.  Unlike subterranean termites, they do not require any contact with the soil in order to live.

A male and female pair of drywood termites will work their way into the wood chosen for the nest. The opening through which they enter the wood is sealed with a plug of brown cement-like material about 1/8-inch in diameter. Behind this plug they excavate a chamber where the queen lays the first eggs.

Drywood Termites can be found by their fecal pellets that are 6 sided and concave on each side.  They will also leave behind a fine powdering of wood which resembles fine sawdust.

Tampa Termite Control – Desert Subterranean Termites

There are many different types of termites.  As the only termites that can burrow and feed in dry conditions, Desert Subterranean Termites are found in areas of the United States with dry desert climates.  This tends to be New Mexico, Arizona, Western Texas, and Southern California.

Desert Subterranean Termites differ in appearance from their counter parts in that they have long slender mandibles rather than the normal stout wide mandibles seen in other species.  The soldiers of this termite species are much smaller than those of other termite species.  This allows them to penetrate smaller cracks and openings than other termites.

When a home is infested with desert subterranean termites one will often see small mud tubes hanging from shelves, overhangs, wood ceilings, and such.  Their food of choice, like many other termites is the cellulose part of wood.

Go Tampa Pest Control provides both termite removal and termite prevention.  Call us today to find out how you can protect your home!
